From 12 November 2026 to 17 January 2027, the Heleneum in Lugano (Via Cortivo 26) will host the special exhibition ‘40 anni di MUSEC’, an exhibition celebrating the first forty years of the Museum delle Culture.
The exhibition aims to offer the general public and cultural institutions, both locally and internationally, a comprehensive retrospective dedicated to the collections, history and exhibitions that have characterised the Museum’s journey. A journey through forty years of research, promotion and cultural outreach, beginning with the first exhibition held at Villa Ciani in 1986, which traces the most significant milestones of a museum experience that has helped to foster dialogue between cultures.
As well as marking MUSEC’s welcome return to the Heleneum – the Museum’s historic home until 2016 – the event takes place during the temporary closure of Villa Malpensata, scheduled from 26 October for maintenance work.
The closure of the exhibition spaces at Villa Malpensata does not mean a halt to the Museum’s activities. In addition to this special exhibition, MUSEC will continue to carry out its research, conservation and curatorial work, whilst preparing the new events that will accompany the reopening of the galleries, scheduled for February 2027.
