An extraordinary exhibition at Heleneum

From 12 November 2026 to 17 January 2027, the Heleneum in Lugano (Via Cortivo 26) will host the special exhibition ‘40 Years of MUSEC’, an exhibition celebrating forty years of the Lugano Museum of Cultures.
The exhibition aims to offer the general public and cultural institutions, both locally and internationally, a comprehensive retrospective dedicated to the collections, history and exhibitions that have characterised the Museum’s journey. A journey through forty years of research, promotion and cultural outreach, beginning with the first exhibition held at Villa Ciani in 1986, which traces the most significant milestones of a museum experience that has helped to foster dialogue between cultures.
The exhibition is open every day except Tuesdays, and on 24, 25 and 31 December.

As well as marking MUSEC’s welcome return to the Heleneum – the museum’s historic home until 2016 – the event takes place during the temporary closure of Villa Malpensata, scheduled to begin on 26 October for maintenance work.
