My Ancestor Friend
20 MAY 2006 – 04 JUNE 2006
HELENEUM – LUGANO

The exhibition My Ancestor Friend had as its protagonists the children of the third grade of the Giubiasco-Stazione primary school, guided by their teacher Igor Nastic, who took them on a journey of creativity and exploration of distant worlds and cultures, through the works on display in the rooms of the Heleneum. The end result of this educational experience was the creation of 18 tempera canvases, on which the children were able to express their creativity, taking the works of art in the museum as a starting point to come up with completely original creations. The educational project and the exhibition were developed and supervised right up to their realisation by the MUSEC research team and in particular by Isabella Lenzo, Marta Cometti and Veronica Tanzi.

The Dèibambini project was founded in 2005 as a platform for interaction between the museum and the school. In its first ten years, the project allowed children to engage with different topics, with the aim of increasing their awareness of their own potential and inner vision and strengthening their ability to interpret the world. Since 2022, the starting point has been the works of children from the past. The idea is to build a bridge between the children’s creativity of yesterday and today, through the in-depth exploration of the expressive contents that not only interconnect cultures, but have served as an extraordinary source for the renewal of artistic languages in the 20th century. A solid bridge, full of poetry, to connect the generations.
