Yang Xiaojian. Landscapes of Identity

With more than one hundred works on paper created between 2004 and 2021, the exhibition offers an overview of the most recent expressions of Yang Xiaojian (Taiyuan, Shanxi 1960) and retraces the completely original itinerary that led the Chinese artist to abandon traditional calligraphic writing in favour of pure painting, where there is no distinction between abstract and figurative.

Walking through the exhibition, from the first large papers on display, true abstract landscapes, the visitor witnesses a progressive shrinking of the dimensions of the works that metaphorically translates into images the artist's ideal path towards essence and individual nature.

The initiative is the new chapter of «Global Aesthetics», a cycle that explores the various forms and languages of contemporary creativity, in order to bring the profound reasons and context of the processes of artistic creation back to centre stage.
