The Photo Library of the Museum

The Museum of Cultures' Photographic Archive  conserves, protects and enhances the institutional photographic fund, which is conserved and exhibited according to criteria that guarantee the stability and quality of photographic material.

The photographic archive collects, catalogues and analyses the photographic funds which are donated to the museum.   It is also responsible for the “Esovisioni” project prints.  This project prepares a yearly exhibition on exoticism in early twentieth century photography. An illustrated scientific catalogue is published for every exhibition and often presents previously unpublished material.

The library also has a significant section on photography which aids the study of photography as well as the historical and cultural value of our collections.

Our photographic archive collaborates with national and international institutions, such as the Swiss Foundation of Photography in Winterthur, the Società Filologica Friulana and the Gabinetto Vieusseux in Florence, in order to organise exhibitions and update its resources.
